Class Materials & Coverage Checklist
Track curriculum delivery and manage batch assignments using the class materials checklist.
Who this is for
Teachers leading classes and monitoring cohort homework progress.
What this page answers
- What is the Class Materials tab, and how do I read the coverage checklist?
- How do I assign lessons and homework to the whole class at once?
- How do I give missed work to students who joined the class late?
- How do I change due dates and instructions for an entire class simultaneously?
- When should I unassign a lesson versus canceling a class session?
Prerequisites
- An active class with at least one student and assigned curriculum materials
The Class Materials Checklist
When you open any class from Classes in the sidebar, the Materials tab displays a comprehensive checklist of all materials associated with the class.
This view acts as your teaching ledger:
- It shows every class lesson, self-study activity, and homework assignment in order.
- It displays the delivery status for each item across the class roster:
- Not assigned: The material is in the curriculum but has not yet been given to students.
- Assigned: The item has been released to students and is waiting on student action or class start.
- In progress: Students have started working on the exercise or homework.
- Needs review: Students have submitted homework that is awaiting teacher verification.
- Done: The lesson or homework is completed and verified.
- Canceled: The scheduled session or assignment was canceled.
The Five Quick Actions
Each row in the materials checklist provides targeted actions depending on the item's current state:
1. Assign to Class
When an item is marked Not assigned, click "Assign to class" to distribute it to all active students in the class. You can set an optional due date, submission buffer, and assignment note with instructions for your students.
2. Give to Those Without It
If new students join your class after an assignment has already been distributed, you do not need to reassign the lesson to everyone.
Click "Give to those without it" on the row. Locuto instantly identifies which students are missing the material and gives it to them, leaving all existing students' progress and submissions completely undisturbed.
Use "Give to those without it" whenever you welcome late joiners into an ongoing cohort. It ensures everyone is on the same page in a single click.
3. Edit Due Date and Note
Need to give the class an extension or update instructions?
- Click the action menu (
...) on an assigned homework row and select "Edit due date and note". - Update the deadline or note text.
- Saving updates the due date and instructions for all students in the batch at once.
Changing the deadline on a class assignment updates everyone in that class cohort. Individual lesson moves on the calendar do not alter shared batch notes.
4. Reschedule Class
For live class lessons, click "Reschedule class" to pick a new date and time on the calendar. All students in the class receive an updated calendar notification, and linked preparation materials or homework adjust their release windows automatically.
5. Cancel Class vs. Unassign
- Unassign from class: Removes the assignment from students' dashboards if it was given by mistake and has not yet been started.
- Cancel class: If a lesson is already attached to a scheduled live video session on the calendar, attempting to unassign will prompt you to Cancel class instead. This cleanly cancels the video room, frees the calendar slot, and notifies the students.
Monitoring Class Progress
Above the materials checklist, summary indicators show:
- Total lessons assigned versus remaining in the program
- Homework completion rates across all class members
- Number of submissions currently waiting for your review
Clicking on any submitted homework row opens the review interface directly, allowing you to grade exercises, leave audio feedback, or verify completion.

Q&A
What happens if I edit a due date after some students have already submitted?
Students who have already submitted keep their completion status intact. The new deadline applies to students whose work is still in progress or not yet started.
Can I assign material to just one student from the Class Materials tab?
The Class Materials tab is designed for class-wide actions. To assign extra practice to a single student, open that student's profile from the Students tab and assign work directly to their individual learning plan.
